L’ARTE DEL PROFUMO

A world of scent.
An Italian soul.

A Florentine rosewater. A spice arriving in Venice. A bergamot peel opening beside the sea. Italy’s fragrance story is full of journeys and the pleasure of bringing something beautiful home.

01 / MEMORIA

Why Italy
speaks in scent.

Gardens, apothecaries and trading ports gave Italian perfumery a rich meeting place for ideas. Local materials met ingredients from far away. The craft was in knowing how to bring them together.

1381 / 1612

The flower, kept close.

Santa Maria Novella’s records document scented waters, including rosewater, in 1381. In 1612, its convent authorized a public pharmacy. These Florentine milestones tell a lovely story: the scent of a fleeting flower becoming something to carry, keep and return to.

RIALTO

The world, in a small parcel.

Cardamom, cloves and ginger reached Rialto along the spice routes. Venice’s muschieri created scented preparations for skin, clothes and rooms. Perfume grew through exchange: distant ingredients finding new lives in the things closest to us.

1840

Sunlight, held in the peel.

Around Reggio Calabria, bergamot became a fragrance tradition of its own. The 1840 “macchina calabrese” helped mechanize the extraction of its essence. Cold pressing draws the oil from the peel: a bright, bittersweet character with a remarkable place in perfumery.

02 / MATERIA

From the orchard
to the first spray.

The imagination is romantic. The making is precise. A fragrance brings together raw materials, a perfumer’s formula and the expertise that turns it into something you can wear.

I

The older palette

Flowers, woods, spices and citrus peel. Makers extracted aromas through methods including distillation. Citrus oils could be pressed from the rind. The technique followed the material.

II

The nineteenth century

In the late 1800s, aroma materials such as vanillin and coumarin expanded the perfumer’s palette. Synthesis opened new creative possibilities and helped fragrance be produced at greater scale and lower cost.

III

A craft that crosses borders

Today, growers, extractors, ingredient makers, perfumers and manufacturers work across countries. Natural extracts and manufactured aroma materials sit together in the modern perfumer’s palette.

HOW FRAGRANCE IS MADE TODAY

01

Source

Growers and specialist suppliers provide aromatic extracts and other fragrance materials. Containers, valves and packaging come from their own specialist makers.

02

Compose

The perfumer balances materials into a formula: citrus against spice, petals against woods, brightness against warmth. Measured blending allows that composition to be reproduced.

03

Prepare

The fragrance is developed for its finished format. Production includes checks on materials and batches. An aerosol also depends on the compatibility of formula, container, valve and propellant.

04

Fill & finish

Specialist aerosol production brings together filling, sealing, pressure and leak checks, and final packaging. The scent and the spray are both part of the finished experience.

The beautiful art
of staying a little longer.

L’aperitivo

Before dinner, possibility.

Aperitivo makes a little room between the day and dinner: a drink, a few things to share, time for conversation. We imagine it with a bright citrus opening and the moment someone pulls up a chair beside you.

La passeggiata

Take the long way.

In Bolsena, Viale Colasanti leads through the trees toward the lake, with benches and pauses for the sunset. A slow walk gives the evening room to change. Another turn, another story. Goodnight can wait.

Ancora un minuto

The part you keep.

A trace of rose on a scarf. Warm woods on a shirt borrowed for the walk home. This is the romance we make room for: the small, ordinary things that become impossible to forget.
